IMF warns on funding levels if crisis worsens

EU and IMF inspectors are due to return to Athens this week

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has warned it may not have enough money to bail out larger eurozone countries if the debt crisis were to spread.

IMF chief Christine Lagarde says the global lender can meet its current obligations but this could change if the crisis worsens.
Meanwhile the Greek finance minister says Greece will do "whatever it takes" to reduce its deficit.
Evangelos Venizelos was speaking after a meeting with Ms Lagarde.                               
Publicly, world leaders have said there is "no plan" for a Greek default.
But reports suggest leaders are working on a plan to allow Greece to default on its debts and remain in the euro.
It is believed that policymakers feel they need to concentrate on recapitalising banks and boosting the funds of the European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF).
BBC business reporter Joe Lynam says that the plan to increase the EFSF's financial firepower could see the money available to bail out EU banks and member states rise from 440bn euros ($596bn; £385bn) to about 2 trillion euros.
He added that the plan could also enable the European Central Bank (ECB) to buy more Italian and Spanish bonds to prevent those two countries needing a full bailout.
Meanwhile, Antonio Borges, the head of the IMF's European department, has urged the ECB to play a bigger role in fighting the crisis.
"It is very important that we see a combination of the ECB and the EFSF," said Mr Borges.
"The ECB is the only agent that can really scare the markets."
'Back to the 1960s' In a speech to a banking industry group in Washington, Greek finance minister Evangelos Venizelos said Greece was ready to take "the necessary initiatives at any political cost" to reduce its debt.
He also pledged Greece would stay within the euro, but denied that the Greek crisis was enough on its own to cause a "domino effect" elsewhere in the eurozone.
Earlier, Greece's minister for international economic relations, Constantine Papadopoulos, said leaving the euro would be "catastrophic" for Greece.

The Sabbath In Prophecy

Almost the whole Christian world reverences Sunday, did God know that this attempt to change His holy Sabbath would occur?

"And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time. " Daniel 7:25

"Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them." Acts 20:28-30

Yes, long ago God predicted that, from within the church itself, misguided men would arise who would attempt to change His holy law.


Who is responsible for all of the confusion regarding the Sabbath?

In the Bible's prophetic book of Daniel, God lists many identifying characteristics of the little horn who would 'think to change' God's law. The Bible's identifying points clearly implicate the Roman Catholic church as this organization. Infact, you can even find the answer to this question by looking at the many statements made by the church and its leadership.

“The Catholic Church designated Sunday as the day for corporate worship and gets full credit – or blame – for the change.” This Rock, The Magazine of Catholic Apologetics and Evangelization, p.8, June 1997

"The Church, on the other hand, after changing the day of rest from the Jewish Sabbath, or seventh day of the week, to the first, made the Third Commandment refer to Sunday as the day to be kept holy as the Lord's Day." The Catholic Encyclopedia,

'Of course the Catholic Church claims that the change was her act. And the act is a mark of her ecclesiastical power and authority in religious matters.' C. F. Thomas, Chancellor of Cardinal Gibbons, in answer to a letter regarding the change of the Sabbath, November 11, 1895.

Is it important to keep the true Sabbath?

The 3 Angels Messages, God's Final Warning Messages to the EarthYes it is. In God's final warning messages to the world we find a call to worship the Creator. "And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven... Saying with a loud voice Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters." Revelation 14:6-7

The call to worship in Revelation 14:7 brings us back to the Sabbath Commandment which God set aside specifically for holy purposes: "Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it." Exodus 20:8-11

Throughout the scriptures we can see an emphasis on the recognition of the Creator. "Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created." Revelation 4:11

"For the LORD is great, and greatly to be praised: He is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the LORD made the heavens." Psalms 96:4-5

"I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth." Psalms 121:2

By keeping the Sabbath holy, as He commanded us, we show our love for Him and give recognition of His authority in our life. "Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous." 1 John 5:1


Does it matter how we worship God?

Yes. In John chapter 4 the woman at the well asked Jesus the same question. Jesus responded: "the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." John 4:23-24

God issues a strong warning in Revelation 14:7 clarifiying that we should "worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters." This strong warning is needed because the devil has deceived almost the entire world into accepting his substitute and thus multitudes worship or obey him rather than the Creator. "And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast. And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?" Revelation 13:3-4


Can we know for sure who this beast is and is it really all that important?

Yes, we can, and must know who this beast is.

"And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:" Revelation 14:9-10 The Bible clearly says that those who worship the beast will be lost.

In the light of this most serious and solemn warning from God we must not listen to anyone who tells us that we can't understand who the beast is or that it really doesn't matter. (See 2 Timothy 4:3-4, 2 Corinthians 11:14-15)

By letting the Bible interpret itself, comparing scripture with scripture, we can know exactly who the beast is. (James 1:5, Isaiah 28:10-13) If you haven't done so already we suggest you review the points describing the little horn found in Daniel 7 and then let the Bible identify the first beast of Revelation 13.


The Battle is Over Worship!

GM Rice with Human Genes set for Approval - Mar.2007

Lab-created rice contains human saliva and breast milk proteins.Summary:

The first GM food crop containing human genes is set to be approved for commercial production.
The laboratory-created rice produces some of the human proteins found in breast milk and saliva.
Its U.S. developers say they could be used to treat children with diarrhoea, a major killer in the Third World.
The rice is a major step in so-called Frankenstein Foods, the first mingling of human-origin genes and those from plants. But the U.S. Department of Agriculture has already signalled it plans to allow commercial cultivation.
The rice's producers, California-based Ventria Bioscience, have been given preliminary approval to grow it on more than 3,000 acres in Kansas. The company plans to harvest the proteins and use them in drinks, desserts, yoghurts and muesli bars.
The news provoked horror among GM critics and consumer groups on both sides of the Atlantic.
GeneWatch UK, which monitors new GM foods, described it as "very disturbing". Researcher Becky Price warned: "There are huge, huge health risks and people should rightly be concerned about this."
Friends of the Earth campaigner Clare Oxborrow said: "Using food crops and fields as glorified drug factories is a very worrying development.
"If these pharmaceutical crops end up on consumers' plates, the consequences for our health could be devastating.
"The biotech industry has already failed to prevent experimental GM rice contaminating the food chain.
"The Government must urge the U.S. to ban the production of drugs in food crops. It must also introduce tough measures to prevent illegal GM crops contaminating our food and ensure that biotech companies are liable for any damage their products cause."
In the U.S., the Union of Concerned Scientists, a policy advocacy group, warned: "It is unwise to produce drugs in plants outdoors.
"There would be little control over the doses people might get exposed to, and some might be allergic to the proteins."
The American Consumers Union and the Washington-based Centre for Food Safety also oppose Ventria's plans.
As well as the contamination fears there are serious ethical concerns about such a fundamental interference with the building blocks of life.
Yet there is no legal means for Britain and Europe to ban such products on ethical grounds.
Imports would have to be accepted once they had gone through a scientific safety assessment. The development is what may people feared when, ten years ago, food scientists showed what was possible by inserting copies of fish genes from the flounder into tomatoes, to help them withstand frost.
Ventria has produced three varieties of the rice, each with a different human-origin gene that makes the plants produce one of three human proteins.
Two—lactoferrin and lysozyme—are bacteria-fighting compounds found in breast milk and saliva. The genes, cultivated and copied in a laboratory to produce a synthetic version, are carried into embryonic rice plants inside bacteria.
Until now, plants with human-origin genes have been restricted to small test plots.
Ventria originally planned to grow the rice in southern Missouri but the brewer Anheuser-Busch, a huge buyer of rice, threatened to boycott the state amid concern over contamination and consumer reaction.
Now the USDA, saying the rice poses "virtually no risk". has given preliminary approval for it to be grown in Kansas, which has no commercial rice farms.
Ventria will also use dedicated equipment, storage and processing facilities supposed to prevent seeds from mixing with other crops.
The company says food products using the rice proteins could help save many of the two million children a year who die from diarrhoea and the resulting dehydration and complications. A recent study in Peru, sponsored by Ventria, showed that children with severe diarrhoea recovered a day and a half faster if the salty fluids they were prescribed included the proteins.
The rice could also be a huge money-spinner in the Western world, with parents being told it will help their children get over unpleasant stomach bugs more quickly.
Ventria chief executive Scott Deeter said last night: "We have a product here that can help children get better faster."
He said any concerns about safety and contamination were "based on perception, not reality" given all the precautions the company was taking.
Mr. Deeter said production in plants was far cheaper than other methods, which should help make the therapy affordable in the developing world.
He said: "Plants are phenomenal factories. Our raw materials are the sun, soil and water."

THE RIGHT MEN TO LEAD!!!

Often leader have been chosen base on being likable, in favor with man and not the choice of God. A good  example is the story of David and his brothers when a leader for Israel was to be chosen :

1 Sam 16:77 But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.(KJV)

1 Tim 3:1-131 This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.
7 Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.
8 Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;
9 Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.
10 And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.
11 Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.

Make Careful Selection of Men--The men who act as presidents of State conferences should be carefully selected.  Then let these men bear the responsibilities of the conference in a most thorough, earnest, God-fearing manner.  If they are not qualified to do the work thoroughly and successfully, do not keep them in that position.--Testimonies to Ministers, p. 322. {ChL 52.1}
     Great Care in Choosing Men--Great care should be exercised in choosing men to occupy positions of responsibility as guardians of the churches.  My brethren, do not make this choice blindly, lest the flock of God be given an example that will teach them to tear and devour.  The men who bear responsibilities in the cause of Christ should be men of prayer and humility.  They are to act like men who in all their dealings with their brethren are guided by the Spirit of God.  They are to give an example of righteousness.  They are sacredly to guard the reputation of those who are doing the work of God.--Review and Herald, November 14, 1907.  {ChL 52.2}
    Presidents to Select Helpers--At the Jackson meeting, Brother ----- says, "I will take the Presidency of the Michigan Conference." And then I sat down before him and laid it out as plain and distinct as I was capable of, what the Lord would have the men in responsible positions do. They should select helpers.  He needed one right by his side; and if there were two or three that could work right in with him, and he not do the work, but try to educate them, it would be better, and they would thus be trained for the work. {ChL 52.3}
     Said I, "What are we going to do?  We are going to be brought up here without any workers." "Well," he says, "That is the right thing to do." But he never lifted a finger, nor followed the direction given, in one item as I know of.--Manuscript 19b, 1890 (July 14, 1890, Methods of Labor and Conducting Camp Meetings). {ChL 52.4}
     Mistakes Not an Evidence of Unfitness--How my heart aches to see presidents of Conferences taking the burden of selecting those whom they think they can mold to work with them in the field.  They take those who will not differ from them but will act like mere machines.  No president has any right to do this.  Leave others to plan, and if they fail in some things do not take it as an evidence that they are unfitted to be thinkers. {ChL 53.1}
     Our most responsible men had to learn by a long discipline and practice how to use their judgment.  In many things they have shown that their work ought to have been better.--Letter 12, 1885 (Oct. 28, 1885, to Butler and Haskell). {ChL 53.2}
     Choose Wise Men--For years the Lord has been instructing us to choose wise men,-men who are devoted to God,--men who know what the principles of heaven are,-men who have learned what it means to walk with God,--and to place upon them the responsibility of looking after the business affairs connected with our work.  This is in accordance with the Bible plan as outlined in the sixth chapter of Acts.  We need to study this plan; for it is approved of God.  Let us follow the Word.--Review and Herald, Oct. 5, 1905. {ChL 53.3}
    Choose Men Who Can Be Trusted--God will teach His people to move carefully, and to make wise choice of men who will not betray sacred trusts.  If in Christ's day the believers needed to be guarded in their choice of men for positions of responsibility, we who are living in this time certainly need to move with great discretion.  We are to present every case before God, and in earnest prayer ask Him to choose for us.--Testimonies, Vol. 9, p. 264. {ChL 53.4}
     Great Care in Selecting Leaders--The Lord has been pleased to present before me many things in regard to the calling and labor of our ministers, especially those who have been appointed as presidents of conferences.  Great care should be exercised in the selection of men for these positions of trust.  There should be earnest prayer for divine enlightenment.--Gospel Workers, p. 413. {ChL 53.5}
    Choose Men Who Have Experience in Faith--Those who are thus appointed as overseers of the flock should be men of good repute; men who give evidence that they have not only a knowledge of the Scriptures, but an experience in faith, in patience, that in meekness they may instruct those who oppose the truth.  They should be men of thorough integrity, not novices, but intelligent students of the Word, able to teach others also, bringing from the treasure-house things new and old; men who in character, in words, in deportment, will be an honor to the cause of Christ, teaching the truth, living the truth, growing up to the full stature in Christ Jesus.  This means the development and strengthening of every faculty by exercise, that the workers may become qualified to bear larger responsibilities as the work increases.--Gospel Workers, p. 413. {ChL 54.1}

GRIEVING THE HOLY SPIRIT

“.... And grieve not the Holy Spirit, whereby you are sealed unto the day of redemption". -   Ephesians 4:30.

GRIEVE NOT THE HOLY SPIRIT

These words of the apostle contain a most serious and affectionate exhortation to this purpose, "Grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed to the day of redemption."

Said John Wesley, The Spirit of God, is called the "Holy" Spirit because He makes us so (i.e. holy). He is the great fountain of holiness to the church; and from Him flows all the grace and virtue by which the stains of guilt are cleansed, thereby renewing in us holy dispositions, and traits, so that we may once again bear the image of our Creator.

Why is it so important that we know what grieves the Holy Spirit, so that we may avoid doing so? Here are just a few reasons:

1. "The prince of the power of evil can only be held in check by the power of God in the third person of the Godhead, the Holy Spirit." (Evangelism, p. 617).

2. It is "through the Spirit that we mortify the deeds of the body [the flesh]" - Romans 8:13.
Moreover, only those who "are led by the Spirit of God,... are the sons of God." - Romans 8:14.

3. We can only be raised from the dead "if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in us, [for] he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken our mortal bodies by his Spirit [if it] dwelleth in us." - Romans 8:11.

4. It is "the Spirit [that] helpeth our infirmities... the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered." - Romans 8:26.

5. The Holy Spirit is our leader and guide.

6. The Holy Spirit is the great Sanctifier.

7. The Holy Spirit in us produces "The fruits of the Spirit:… love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance."

THEREFORE, those who have the Holy Spirit are filled with Joy, not those other joys that the world gives, but our chief joy: joy in the will of the Lord.

Those who have the Holy Spirit also have “peace,” but those who live in the flesh are full of “variance, emulation, strife," etc. The Spirit loves a calm, equable place—a repose of soul.

The Spirit will quench impatience, peevishness, rudeness, crudeness, coarseness, selfishness and the like, for its fruit is “long-suffering,” “gentleness,” and “goodness.”

Likewise, the Holy Spirit in us will make us opposed to worldly-mindedness—love of money—applause—pleasure—power, for the “faith” given by the Holy Spirit is concerned for spiritual things.

So too, all excesses in sensual indulgence will be absent from those who are Spirit-filled: yeah, they have crucified the carnal nature—the deeds of the flesh, for the Spirit gives them “temperance.”

In light of these things, I shall inquire, then:

i. By what kind of sin He is more especially grieved?
ii. What is the consequence of grieving this Holy being?

i. By what kind of sin is the Holy Spirit particularly grieved?
 

John Wesley wrote:

"We are said to grieve the holy Spirit by our sins, because of his immediate presence with us. "Know ye not your own selves," saith St. Paul, "that your bodies are the temples of the Holy Ghost?" And how are they so, but by his inhabitation and intimate presence with our souls. When, therefore, we set up the idols of earthly inclinations in our hearts, (which are properly his altar,) and bow down ourselves to serve those vicious passions which we ought to sacrifice to his will; this must needs be, in the highest degree, offensive and grievous to him: "for what concord is there between the holy Spirit and Belial? Or what agreement hath the temple of God with idols?"

"And the more frequently we offend him, the more we weaken his influences in our souls; for frequent breaches will necessarily occasion estrangement between us; and it is impossible that our intercourse with him can be cordial, when it is disturbed by repeated interruptions. So a man will forgive his friend a great many imprudences, and some wilful transgressions; but to find him frequently affronting him, all his kindness will wear off by degrees; and the warmth of his affection, even towards him who had once the greatest share of it, will die away; as he cannot but think that such a one does not any longer either desire or deserve to maintain a friendship with him."

"A sickly, dwarfed religion," wrote Ellen White "is the result of neglecting to follow the REVEALED LIGHT OF THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD."  (Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 4, p. 192).

Things that Grieve the Holy Spirit in God's SDA people today?

1.The music we listen to.

"The things you have described as taking place in Indiana, the Lord has shown me would take place just before the close of probation. Every uncouth thing will be demonstrated. There will be shouting, with drums, music, and dancing. The senses of rational beings will become so confused that they cannot be trusted to make right decisions. And this is called the moving of the Holy Spirit.

"The Holy Spirit never reveals itself in such methods, in such a bedlam of noise. This is an invention of Satan to cover up his ingenious methods for making of none effect the pure, sincere, elevating, ennobling, sanctifying truth for this time. Better never have the worship of God blended with music, than to use musical instruments to do the work which last January was represented to me would be brought into our camp meetings. The truth for this time needs nothing of this kind in its work of converting souls. A bedlam of noise shocks the senses and perverts that which if conducted aright might be a blessing. The powers of satanic agencies blend with the din and noise, to have a carnival, and this is termed the Holy Spirit's working." E. G. White,  Selected Messages, Vol. 2, 36.

2. Self-sufficiency (which often  manifests itself by rudeness):

"The Holy Spirit is grieved and driven away by the self-sufficiency and rude traits of character which are cherished. These unhallowed elements must be burned out by the Spirit of God. [RH, December 15, 1885 par. 3].


3. Covetousness and not keeping the pledges we make to God:

"Ananias and Sapphira grieved the Holy Spirit by yielding to feelings of covetousness. They began to regret their promise and soon lost the sweet influence of the blessing that had warmed their hearts
with a desire to do large things in behalf of the cause of Christ. They thought they had been too hasty, that they ought to reconsider their decision. They talked the matter over, and decided not to fulfill their
pledge. [The Acts of the Apostles, chap. 7]


4. Idleness, or an unproductive life that produces no returns for the Lord or His cause:

"Work is a blessing, not a curse. A spirit of indolence destroys godliness and grieves the Spirit of God. A stagnant pool is offensive, but a pure, flowing stream spreads health and gladness over the land." [E. G, White, The Acts of the Apostles, chap. 33.]


5. Unsanctified traits and attitudes outlined in Paul's injunctions in Ephesian 4:26-32:

"Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:.... Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you. "

From the above verses, we are given to know several things that WILL grieve the Holy Spirit and lessen His influence upon our lives, namely:

i. corrupt communications—i.e impure or tasteless conversation—even a thought—or a vile song.
ii. bitterness against others (perhaps due to envy, jealousy, difference in opinions, past hurts, etc.)
iii. wrath (intense fury or rage)
iv. anger
v. clamor (fighting for supremacy or to have things done our way)
vi. evil speaking
vii. malice (a lack of good-will toward others)
viii. failing to be tender-hearted
xi. failing to forgive one another (even as God for Christ's sake has forgiven us)

6. Sexual impropriety and other forms of lewdness:

And finally, all impurity in act, word, and deed, will lead to the eventual extinguishing of the light of the Spirit. So too, will a wandering eye offend and expel the Spirit.

ii. What is the Consequence of Grieving the Holy Spirit?

"THE Holy Spirit convinces of sin, and regenerates and sanctifies the soul. It applies and makes available the provision made for man's salvation by the death of Christ. Its agency is indispensable, because men are "without strength" —are " dead in sins"—because they have neither inclination nor ability to become holy.’… The Holy Spirit visits all men, and dwells in believers.... It "strives with men," but may be resisted, grieved, vexed, quenched, and utterly expelled.” [The Works of Stephen Olin: Sermons and sketches (1852), p. 386.]

Yes, your "sin may attain such an enormity that even the blood of Christ can provide no remedy for it" for says the Apostle Paul, "it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, if they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance." [Hebrews, 6:4].

TO CONCLUDE
How far you may have gone in resisting the Spirit, God alone knows, but we do know that probation lingers only a little longer. Therefore, I admonish you to live by the Spirit. Yeah, rather suffer or die than offend Him. For by Him are ye “sealed to the day of [your] redemption."
